“It's all about what is best for the kids,” said Superintendent Jon Rother of Johnson County Central Schools, in a special board of education meeting held on September 16 in preparation for the upcoming bond election on November 3, for the construction of a new PreK-8 grade school facility not to exceed $35 million. However, it was also noted that inflation had already been added to the costs of construction materials.
The new facility designed by Clark and Enerson Architects will consist of 71,000 square feet and will feature a gymnasium and wrestling room as well as an art room and music room, administrative offices, classrooms and maintenance and storage space. According to Tim Ripp of Clark and Enerson, this is a working diagram that can easily be changed if necessary.
Superintendent Rother also informed the board that the bond levy can remain the same and the school can pay the interest in order to pay the bonds off earlier than expected.
