Lynn Lyon is seeking his first elected term of office as Johnson County Sheriff in the November 3 General Election. Lyon was appointed by the Board of Commissioners in April of 2025 to complete the term vacated by Sheriff Josh Sterkel.
Lyon started in law enforcement in 1985 as a member of the U.S. Air Force Security Police. In 1989 Lyon was honorably discharged and began his Nebraska Law Enforcement career with the Syracuse PD, eventually being appointed Chief of Police. He also served with the Central City PD. From 1994 through 2013, Lyon served with the Otoe County Sheriff's Department as a deputy. Starting in 1999, Lyon investigated drug crimes while being assigned to the Southeast Area Drug Enforcement Task Force.
Lyon started with Johnson County in 2013. After Sheriff Scott Walton and Chief Deputy Randy Muhm retired, Lyon was appointed Chief Deputy.
