The Impact of Drones on Farming Operations

“Spraying is one of the most popular and fastest growing ways that drones are being used in agriculture,” said Jacob Uhlman of Clatonia, who started his own business, Uhlman Ag Services, in April, utilizing drones for agricultural purposes in southeast Nebraska.

After graduating from UNL with a Bachelor of Science in Agronomy, Uhlman worked as a Precision Agronomist for Farmers Cooperative for the last five years. Two years ago, he helped start and run the co-op’s drone program with two DJI T40’s, which then expanded to another trailer with two DJI T50’s the following year.

“In April of this year, I left the co-op to start my own business and have been spraying and applying cover crops with a DJI T100,” said Uhlman. With the success Uhlman had this year, he bought another T100 and will have someone help him run the second drone next year during fungicide season. Uhlman plans to be doing pasture spraying this fall.
