Sterling Improves to 2-0 with Road Win Over Parkview Christian

Sterling picked up a 31-20 road victory over Parkview Christian on Saturday, improving to 2-0 on the season despite a slow start and less than ideal playing conditions.
Parkview Christian struck first in the opening quarter when Luke Omel broke free for a 47-yard touchdown run. Aiden Kahler's extra point gave the home team a 7-0 lead.
Sterling answered in the second quarter as Reese Bredthauer scored on a 7-yard run. David Roecker's kick tied the game at 7-7 heading into halftime.
The Jets took their first lead of the game in the third quarter when Beau Kaster capped a drive with a 20-yard touchdown run. Sterling converted the two-point attempt on a Roecker pass to Bredthauer, making it 15-7.
Parkview Christian answered early in the fourth quarter when Omel returned a kickoff 65 yards for a touchdown. Kahler's extra point cut the Sterling lead to 15-14.
Bredthauer struck again for Sterling, breaking off a 47-yard touchdown run. The Jets converted another two-point try on a Roecker-to-Bredthauer connection, pushing the lead to 23-14.
Parkview Christian responded with a 38-yard touchdown pass from Omel to Kahler, though the extra point attempt was no good, keeping Sterling ahead 23-20.
Kaster sealed the win with a 7-yard touchdown run, and Sterling converted the two-point attempt on a Kade Horstman pass to Colt Little, setting the final score at 31-20.
Sterling head coach Brent Heusman credited his team's ability to adjust as the game progressed.
"We got off to a bit of a slow start, but once we got into the flow of the game, our kids answered the bell," Heusman said. "We had some assignment issues in all three phases of the game, which is to be expected early on in the season. This was a great team win in less than ideal conditions. Now we enter our bye week 2-0 riding a wave of momentum that hopefully treats us well for the rest of the season."
Sterling will be off for a bye week on Sept. 11 before returning to action Friday, Sept. 18, at home against Riverside. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
