The Johnson County Central Thunderbirds struggled to slow Elmwood-Murdock’s offense in a 58–26 road loss to open the 2026 season.
The Knights scored 42 points in the first half, leaving JCC with a 24-point deficit at halftime. Despite the loss, the Thunderbirds had several positive offensive moments.
Cooper Jones rushed for 150 yards and scored two touchdowns. Trey Lubben led the team’s receiving effort with three catches for 31 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Regan Campbell-Theis completed six of 14 passes for 84 yards.
Johnson County Central begins the season 0–1 and will play its first home game next week against Freeman.
