The Board of Education at Johnson County Schools adopted a resolution calling for a bond election for the construction of a PreK-8 school facility not to exceed $35 million. The estimated cost of the project is $31.8 million, however the board considered inflation costs to come up with the final bond figure. This motion was made by Dan Jones and seconded by Jon Schmid at a special meeting on Wednesday, August 26. The bond election will be held in conjunction with the General Election on November 3.
The resolution for the bond election must now be received by Johnson County’s Election Commissioner Kathleen Nieveen by Tuesday, September 1, in order to be put on the November 3 ballot.
Tim Ripp of Clark and Enerson architectural firm suggested building a new Pre-K-8 school facility just east up the hill from the current school campus where the practice football field is located. Parking can be located to the east of the new school site. Ripp indicated that a new school at this site wouldn’t take much grading or utility improvements.
