Representatives of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service noted there were six days suitable to work in Nebraska farm fields during the week ending Sunday, Aug. 9.
Moisture Supplies
Topsoil: rated 31 percent very short, 33 percent short, 35 percent adequate and 1 surplus.
Subsoil: rated 34 percent very short, 32 percent short, 33 percent adequate and 1 surplus.
Field Crops Report
Corn: Rated 5 percent very poor, 9 percent poor, 29 percent fair, 43 percent good and 14 percent excellent. Silking 93 percent, near 92 percent in 2025 and 96 percent over the 2021 through 2025 average. Dough 55 percent, near 56 percent the previous year and 58 percent average. Dent 13 percent, equal to last year and near 12 percent average.
Soybeans: Rated 3 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 27 percent fair, 50 percent good and 12 percent excellent. Blooming 92 percent, near 87 percent a year ago and 94 percent average. Setting pods 75 percent, above 69 percent in 2025 and near 76 percent average.
Sorghum: Rated 6 percent very poor, 10 percent poor, 38 percent fair, 41 percent good and 5 percent excellent. Headed 53 percent, well below 68 percent the previous year and average. Coloring 7 percent, near 8 percent last year and equal to average.
Winter wheat: Harvested 97 percent, near 95 percent in 2025 and 96 percent average.
Oats: Rated 14 percent very poor, 41 percent poor, 33 percent fair, 11 percent good and 1 percent excellent. Harvested 89 percent, near 85 percent the previous year and 90 percent average.
Pasture and Range Conditions
Rated 44 percent very poor, 26 percent poor, 21 percent fair and 9 percent good.
