In an update of the renovations to Johnson County Central's high school facility during a Board of Education meeting on August 12, it was reported that the HVAC system and duct work have been installed along with the control system. The fire suppression (sprinkler system) has been installed. Smoke barriers between classrooms and hallways have been installed
A new fire alarm system and controls have been installed. As the systems are being installed, they are simply working out all the issues until the completion of the upgrades.
Board member Jon Schmid asked whether it will be necessary to do some improvements at JCC's Middle School site in the next two years. Superintendent Jon Rother said the Board of Education hasn't discussed any plans for renovations to the Cook Site or the Tecumseh Elementary as the focus has been on keeping the high school and working toward a building bond.
The JCC Board of Education plans to hold a special meeting with Clark Enerson to discuss upgrades in design and changes in costs on Wednesday, August 26 at 6 p.m.
Russ Waring reported that in the next couple of months, the Board of Education will have to decide how they will spend next summer's budget. Waring said that if it is decided the Cook site should remain open for five or more years, there will be a number of items to prioritze, including kitchen hood vents, HVAC in south wing, coating roofs, new water heaters and bringing the fire system up to code if the current panel fails. One project that hasn't happened yet this summer is improvements to the long jump pits. Waring plans to start that project after JCC's last football game on October 23.
Superintendent Rother said he continues to work on the Nebraska Game and Parks Recreational Trails Grant. The idea is to develop a trail near the school providing outdoor educational opportunities. Clark and Enerson is working with Rother to get an estimate on how much the trail would cost. Rother added that Tewcumseh's Economic Developer Doug Goracke is also interested in the trails project if it ties into Tecumseh's city sidewalk system.
