Johnson County Central Schools will open for the 2026-2027 school year on Monday, August 10 with a 1 p.m. dismissal. Regular school hours are as follows: Grades PK-5 Elementary, 8:00 a.m. - 3:50 p.m. Grades 6-8 Middle School, 8:00 a.m. - 3:55 p.m. Grades 9-12 High School, 8:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m.
“I always look forward to each new school year! It's always great seeing the kids come back having grown a little, with their special first day outfits and fresh hair cuts,” said Superintendent Jon Rother. According to Rother, the major improvements in the facilities focused on the high school. The HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) system was totally replaced and upgraded. As a result, the first suppression (sprinkler) system has been installed, smoke barriers have been installed between classrooms and hallways, and upgraded doors for improved fire safety will be installed. The kitchen serving area will also get a facelift.
Another new system has also been installed in the district. The Securely Pass System is a digital way to track hall passes for students leaving a classroom. This system will make the building more secure. Students will learn how to use this system during the first week of school.
