Heritage, Pioneer Farm Awards at Regional County Fairs

Longtime continuous family farm ownership will be acknowledged at the Nemaha and Johnson County fairs.
Monday, Aug. 10 at about 8 p.m. there will be three honorees at the Nemaha County Fair in Auburn. Wager Homestead/Adams Farm and Stevenson Family will receive the Heritage Award. The Pioneer Award will be presented to the Bohling/Norvell Farm.
Sunday, Aug. 16 at 5:45 p.m. John and Diane Murphy will be presented the Heritage Award, and Eric and Carla Trout will be conferred the Pioneer Award at the Johnson County Fair in Tecumseh.
The families will receive a engraved plaque and gatepost marker.
Since 1957, the Pioneer Farm Family Award program has lauded more than 10,000 families from all 93 Nebraska counties. Farmland must have been owned by members of one family continuously for 100 years or more.
The Heritage Farm Award started in 2014. It salutes families owning a parcel of land consecutively for at least 150 years. More than 100 statewide have achieved the milestone over its first 13 years.
To be recognized, a minimum of 40 acres must still be owned and actively farmed by the family.
The award is presented by the Aksarben Foundation.
