A few surprises were found by K2 Construction as they removed brick and sidewalks from the block of Tecumseh’s South 3rd Street going south from Clay Street in preparation for the construction of a new street surface and sidewalks. The work crew has found three underground tanks and the footings for some structure now long gone. The crew have already removed the footings.
“We found a tank with about 60 gallons of oil inside,” said Construction Manager Jeff Pelz with K2. “We need a certified guy to pump the oil out and remove the tank.”
Since that initial discovery, two more tanks have been found. One is empty, and at this writing, the other has yet to be opened.
