Blue Star Mothers Bestow Two Quilts of Valor in Johnson

“Our country’s Veterans vowed to lay down their lives for you and me, no questions asked,” began Mary Ann Holland, a member of the Blue Star Mothers, Chapter #1 in Nebraska City. She was pleased to be invited to present two Quilts of Valor at the Quilting Sisters’ Open House in the Legion Hall in Johnson. “The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover service members and veterans touched by war, with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor. Since January 1 of this year, 11,679 quilts have been awarded across the United States. Since the beginning of this project in 2003, a total 447,658 Quilts of Valor have been awarded.”

One of the Quilting Sisters, Delta Budt of Cook, is a member of Blue Star Mothers, Chapter #1, made a Quilt of Valor for her son, Staff Sergeant Jon Budt. Delta’s sister, Linda Hug of Auburn, made a Quilt of Valor for her husband’s brother, Clarence Warren “Butch” Hug.

Jon Budt enlisted in the Army National Guard on September 11, 2011. He has served a total of 14 ½ years and holds the rank of Staff Sergeant. After basic training in Fort Jackson, South Carolina, he was assigned to the 155th Engineering Company in South Dakota where he was an electrician for six years. He is currently assigned to the 226th Engineering Company in Kansas, where he has been a construction supervisor for the last 8 ½ years.
