CASEY BOHLING, center, was the winner of the Johnson Chamber car raffle. Bohling took home the 2026 Chevy Trailblazer courtesy of the Johnson Chamber of Commerce and Larson Motors of Nebraska City. Winners of the $1,000 prize included Sam Steffes (North Platte), Charles Gilbert (Johnson), Casey Bohling (Tecumseh), Lucas Lade (Tecumseh) and Jessica Townsend (Johnson). Shortly after 8:00 p.m., the four finalists and one finalist representative gathered outside the Legion Building in front of the vehicle. As their names were drawn, each chose a key, and took a seat in the car to see if their chosen key would start the engine. As the fifth and last finalist to try his luck took a seat, Casey Bohling’s key started the car! photo by Julia Lambert

Rain didn’t keep the crowds away from the 62nd annual Johnson Chicken Barbecue Weekend, which delayed and shortened a handful of events but none were canceled.

Friday

The weekend kicked off Friday evening with the Johnson and Johnson- Brock High School alumni banquet and reunion at the Johnson Legion Building, where 128 alumni and guests gathered for a meal catered by Wooden Spoon. The Class of 1986 hosted the evening, and the Class of 1976 was honored for the 50th anniversary of its graduation, with 17 members in attendance. Dr. Judy Green Grotrian served as the evening’s speaker, and Helen Casey, a member of the Johnson High Class of 1951, was recognized for the 75th anniversary of her graduation. Next year’s reunion and banquet is set for Friday, June 18, 2027, the start of Father’s Day weekend.
