Auburn High School (AHS) musical students were honored Sunday night, May 31 at a celebration of artistic excellence in senior high and middle school theatre.
Little Women The Musical, presented in April, was among 10 high school and two middle school musicals acclaimed as Outstanding Ensemble.
The recognition was at the Nebraska Theater Academy Showcase event presented by Omaha Performing Arts at Omaha’s Orpheum Theater. Winners were determined by a formal adjudication process. Most of the other honorees were from larger schools.
Performing from AHS were Marc Bohling and Kinsley Gerdes in the Showcase. Representatives of each participating school are invited to select up to two students to join the Showcase Ensemble. They perform in the opening and/or closing number at the showcase. Teachers are responsible for selecting student-musicians.
Addison Fankhauser, 2026 AHS graduate, was among 14 finalists for the National High School Musical Theatre Award. Diane Hughes, AHS musical director, noted she was among six who auditioned who had the opportunity to perform on stage.
The other finalists were primarily from larger schools.
Presented by The Broadway League Foundation, it is a national celebration of outstanding student achievement, recognizing individual artistry in vocal, dance and acting performance and elevating the importance of theatre arts education in schools.
There were 87 schools represented from across Nebraska as well as Council Bluffs, Iowa and Sioux Falls, S.D.
