A Patriotic Worship Service to honor all military servicemen and women who have served our country was held at the Martin Luther Lutheran Church on Sunday, May 17.

Guest speaker, Captain Ken Volker, made a choice after graduating from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1968 and never looked back. He completed basic flight and jet training, met aircraft carrier qualifications, and earned his pilot wings after completing advanced jet training. Choosing to fly the F4 Phantom aircraft, he was assigned to Fighter Squadron 51 and soon was onboard the USS Coral Sea off the coast of Vietnam for a nine-month cruise.

Ken graduated from Top Gun school where his classroom was 30,000 feet in the air and again was on his way to Vietnam. This time there was no combat. Orders were to report to the F4 training squadron and to Top Gun as a flight instructor.
