Honoring Veterans for their Service this Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day is a day we as Americans honor and remember our deceased veterans who've served in the military to fight for the great freedoms of today. Memorial Day services will be conducted in these area cemeteries in honor of our deceased veterans.
Tecumseh
On Monday, May 25, The Tecumseh Honor Guard and Firing Squad will meet at the Veterans Club at 8 a.m. Memorial Day Services will be conducted in the following cemeteries:
Maple Grove cemetery, 9 a.m.; Vesta Cemetery, 9:30 a.m; St. Andrew Cemetery, 10 a.m.; Spring Creek Cemetery, 10:30 a.m.; Tecumseh Cemetery, 11 a.m. Veteran’s Memorial in the courtyard, 11:30 a.m. Guest speaker to be announced.
Cook
Memorial Day services will be conducted in the following cemeteries by members of the Bickel-Nelson American Legion Post #360 on Monday, May 25. Helena Cemetery, 9:30 a.m.; Cook and Grace Lutheran Cemetery, 9:50 a.m.; St. Paul’s UCC (Osage), 10:10 a.m.; Livingston Cemetery, 10:30 a.m.; Mount Hope Cemetery, 10:50 a.m.
A Memorial Day dinner will be served by the Cook American Legion Auxiliary Unit #360 following the services from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Cook Community Center. This is a freewill offering.
Crab Orchard
There will be a Memorial Day program at the Crab Orchard Cemetery at 11 a.m., on Sunday, May 24, followed by a luncheon at the Crab Orchard Community Center at 12 noon. The public is invited to the luncheon.
On Monday, May 25, the Honor Guard and Firing Squad from the Virginia American Legion Post #367 will conduct a service at 9 a.m.
Elk Creek
The Tracy-Bates American Legion Post #370 of Elk Creek will conduct Memorial Day services in the following cemeteries on Monday, May 25: Grandview Cemetery at 9:30 a.m.; St. James Lutheran (Long Branch) Cemetery, 10 a.m.; St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery (southwest of Elk Creek), 10:30 a.m. and the Mount Hope Cemetery at 11 a.m.
A potluck meal will be served in the Elk Creek Community Center at noon. Drinks and tableware will be provided. Family, friends and visitors of the Elk Creek community are invited to attend.
Sterling
On Monday, May 25, members of the Harm Sangen American Legion Post #140 of Sterling will meet at the Sterling Legion Hall at 7:30 a.m. A firing squad and color guard will conduct Memorial Day services in the following cemeteries:
St. Mary Cemetery, 8:30 a.m.; South St. John Cemetery, 9 a.m.; Hopewell Cemetery, 9:20 a.m.; Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, 9:40 a.m. St. John’s Cemetery, 10 a.m.; Sterling Cemetery at 11 a.m. A Memorial Day dinner will be held in the Sterling High School gymnasium following the services.
Johnson
Members of Bender-Reese American Legion Post 330 will have services at the following cemeteries: Lafayette near Brock at 9 a.m., St. Paul Lutheran Hickory Grove at 9:45 a.m,., Martin Luther at 10:30 a.m. and Johnson at 11 a.m.
Auburn 
American Legion Post #23 will host a memorial day program at 10 a.m. at Memorial Legion Park in Auburn on May 25. Music, laying of a wreath, a 3 gun salute and speakers are planned.
