McDonald Has Been USPS Clerk for Over 30 Years

“It's the customers who make my job enjoyable,” said Diane McDonald, who has served as a non-traditional fulltime (tnft) clerk with the U.S. Postal Service for over 30 years. McDonald’s last day at the Tecumseh Post Office will be Friday, May 15.

McDonald starts her workday about 6 a.m., when she begins sorting the mail and putting mail in customers' post office boxes. About 9:30 a.m., McDonald will begin waiting on customers at the front counter. McDonald also sorts boxes of mail that must be distributed to the Cook, Elk Creek, and Crab Orchard Post Offices by a Tecumseh rural mail carrier.

“Currently, the biggest challenge is in keeping up with all the Amazon packages that are shipped through the Tecumseh Post Office.” McDonald explained that the Tecumseh Post Office may receive 700 to 800 Amazon packages in a week to deliver to their customers. She added that during the Christmas season, they received 1,000 Amazon packages to be sorted and delivered to Tecumseh/Johnson County area customers. McDonald said she's handled anything from cases of bottled drinks to a large refrigerator.
