Project Response April 25 Walk a Mile in Their Shoes Event Supports Sexual Assault Awareness Month

In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), Project Response Inc. announces the Walk a Mile in Their Shoes event.
It is scheduled Saturday, April 25 at 11 a.m. at the Auburn City Recreation Complex picnic area. The day aims to raise awareness about sexual assault prevention and support survivors in our community.
“We believe that by coming together as a community, we can raise awareness about the prevalence of sexual assault and the importance of prevention. The Walk a Mile in Their Shoes event provides a meaningful way for individuals to show their support for survivors and advocate for change. The day will feature a silent walk, adorned with informational yard signs, a ’ what were they wearing’ display, and other informational spots offering participants a reflective journey through the realities faced by survivors of sexual assault. There is no registration fee for the event. Event T-shirts can be purchased through the provided link or web address,” stated Desaray Sardeson-Johnson, director at Project Response.
Participants are invited to stand in solidarity with survivors and advocate for the elimination of sexual violence. Led by the Project Response team, the day highlights the organization’s ongoing commitment to empowerment, education and survivor support.
“As a team, we believe that bringing the community together is key to raising awareness about the prevalence of sexual assault and the importance of prevention. Walk a Mile in Their Shoes provides a meaningful way for individuals to show their support for survivors and advocate for change,” the Project Response team indicated.
In addition to the walk, attendees can enjoy a freewill donation brunch and participate in a drawing for prizes generously donated by local businesses and supporters. All proceeds will directly benefit Project Response’s vital confidential and free services. Those include a 24/7 crisis hotline, emergency shelter, crisis counseling, transportation, protection order assistance, medical and legal advocacy, court accompaniment, referrals, and assistance locating safe and affordable housing.
“We welcome the entire community to join us for this impactful event. Together, we can make a difference and create a safer, more supportive environment for survivors of sexual assault,” the Project Response team added.
Project Response serves residents of five counties: Johnson, Nemaha, Otoe, Pawnee and Richardson. The main office is in Auburn, but staff can meet survivors where they are.
“Project Response is dedicated to the elimination of domestic and sexual violence through empowerment, education, social action and support services.”
