Sterling Captures District Speech Title; Six Entries to State

Monday, March 16, the Sterling High School speech team won the Class D2-1 districts at Raymond Central High School.
The following have advanced to the Class D-2 state meet Saturday, March 28 at Horizon Middle School in Kearney.
Poetry: Joie Janssen, first.
Extemporaneous: David Roecker, first.
Persuasive: Ellen Winter, first.
Serious: Roecker, second.
Entertainment: Gideon Matkins, third.
Program Oral Interpretation: Winter, third.
Also placing at districts, but not qualifying to state, were:
Duet acting: Gideon Matkins and Jubilee Matkins, fourth.
Oral Interpretation of Drama: Winter, Janssen and Jubilee Matkins, fifth.
Extemporaneous: Carson Potburg, fifth.
Entertainment: Jubilee Matkins, fifth.
Humorous: Chloe Smith, fifth.
Informative: Smith, sixth.
Team standings: 1. Sterling 182 points. 2. Elgin Pope John 160. 3. Lewiston 158. 4. Falls City Sacred Heart 144. 5. Hampton 110. 6. Bruning-Davenport 86. 7. Nebraska Lutheran 34. 8. Shickley 26. Dorchester did not score.
