Two-and one-half months into his tenure as Peru State College (PSC) president, Dr. Robert Mock told an Auburn audience Monday night, March 16, he believes he has become part of the community.
“I’ve been engaged heavily in the community. I appreciate getting a lot of feedback, much of which has been positive. Southeast Nebraskans are engaging. They’re thirsting for Peru State College to welcome you and to be a part of it. People have been engaging. I’ve enjoyed my time here,” Mock stated. He was at Auburn City Hall during a community reception.
The PSC president continued he has been visiting area high schools and has been welcomed positively.
“It’s been encouraging. There’s a lot of enthusiasm. Lots of work needs to be done at Peru State College. We need more students. We need more money. Everything else is great. If we solve these two (issues), it will be a positive solution,” Mock related.
“We want to be good stewards and hire people who are local. We want to hit the road and get enrollment up where we need to be. We need online and face to face students. Three major college expenses are housing, dining and tuition. If you go online, you can get a great education,” the PSC leader said.
Since assuming the presidency at the start of 2026, Mock expressed appreciation on assistance from Jon Firmature, PSC Foundation executive director and Ted Harshbarger, Foundation director of alumni relations in making the early weeks go smoothly.
He also wants to become involved with upcoming activities. Those include the Feeding 44 food distribution the first Friday each month and the April Peru Clean Up day.
“As Peru State College grows, Peru grows. As Peru State College goes, so does Southeast Nebraska,” he concluded.
