The Lied Center Brings World Premiere Play, Capital City to Auburn

The Lied Center Brings World Premiere Play, Capital City to Auburn

The one night only event is presented by the Lied Center’s ‘Arts Across Nebraska’ (AAN) program.
On Friday, April 17, AAN is proud to bring the world premiere of the play Capital City to the community of Auburn.
About the play:
Money. Corruption. Murder. Welcome to Capital City. In this searing original play inspired by Nebraska author Mari Sandoz’ novel Capital City, the Great Depression has split the people of a fictional Midwestern city in two: the rich and the poor. What lengths will the have-nots go to gain back their land, homes, and dignity? How far will the haves go to make sure they control it all?
Performed in Animal Engine Theatre Company’s signature physical style, actors create a richly detailed portrait of shanty towns, high society balls, striking workers, backroom schemes, and more with just their bodies and song.
An original commission from the Lied Center of Nebraska, Animal Engine returns to Nebraska after performing their popular Willa Cather-inspired epic Henrietta Solway in 2023.
Animal Engine’s Capital City will be performed on Friday, April 17, 2026 at 7:00pm at APS Central Office Auditorium located at 1713 J Street, Auburn, NE 68305. Tickets will be $10 per adult and $2 per child and can be reserved at auburnnechamber.com or by visiting The Cenacle, 1304 Court House Avenue.
In addition to the public show, there will be a matinee performance for area students on Friday, April 17, as well as a workshop with Animal Engine artists.
This special event is sponsored by Auburn Creative District, Grow Auburn, Auburn Chamber of Commerce, and Auburn Public Schools.
This performance is part of the Lied Center’s Arts Across Nebraska program, made possible by the Nebraska Arts Council, Nebraska Cultural Endowment, Friends of Lied, and The Richard P. Kimmel and Laurine Kimmel Charitable Foundation.
