The Tecumseh Fire Department responded to a house fire on 12th and Broadway Street in Tecumseh about 12 noon on Thursday, March 5. The fire was mainly contained to the southeast corner of the home of Nick Buck and his family.
Fire Chief Jarrod Schuster said the Tecumseh firefighters were able to knock the fire down fairly quickly, but had a little difficulty extinguishing the fire when it reached underneath the flooring of the house. Approximately nine Tecumseh Firefighters responded to the scene and remained there until approximately 3:30 p.m. to extinguish any hotspots that flared up.
The State Fire Marshal arrived at the scene and determined the fire to be electrical. Fire Chief Schuster added that the home sustained extensive smoke and water damage.
The Buck family, which includes a 9 year-old boy and a 2 ½ year-old girl, are currently staying at the Super 7 Motel, while looking for other housing accommodations. Anyone wishing to give clothing donations for the family as well as other items can contact T.O. Haas ((402) 539-5874) in Tecumseh for more information.
