Two Downtown Revitalization Projects About to Get Under Way in Tecumseh
THE BRICK STREETS of downtown Tecumseh, shown here with the courthouse in the center, will be replace during construction and other significant facade improvements throughout the square. The project applications are expected to be released in mid-April. Street improvements will be on the square and extend one block all directions along 3rd and 4th streets, running north and south; and Clay and Broadway running east and west.

“We’re in the environmental review stage,” said Tecumseh Economic Development Director Doug Goracke about the Facade Improvement grant the city received through Community Development Block Grant – Downtown Revitalization (CDBG-DTR). This money was made available through Nebraska Economic Development. The review should be finished in the next couple weeks and then the city will be ready to get the applications out. Goracke hopes to get started by mid-April.

Businesses located around the downtown area are eligible to apply for 75-25 matching grants for facade improvements. This includes any needed exterior work such as the roof, windows, doors, paint, tuckpointing etc. Building owners around the downtown area who might have a repair or upgrade in mind are encouraged to apply and to contact Goracke soon through email at: dgoracke@tecumsehne. com or call with other contact information.

“Depending on the number of applications, we will set limits on the projects to stretch the money so everybody gets something,” Goracke said.
