The Eagles opened postseason play with over EMF for the third time this season in the district tournament. The 46-42 win over the Bobcats set the Eagles up for a subdistrict final matchup against Yutan on Thursday night, which ended in a four point loss in overtime. Still, Johnson-Brock’s resume throughout the season earned them a district final spot on the road against Freeman on Monday night.
The first half of the district final in Adams was a tight battle, with the Falcons taking an early lead before the Eagles pulled ahead 20-18. By halftime, the two teams were tied 22 apiece.
Brody Koehler came out to knock down a jumper to give the Eagles a 24-22 lead in the second half, but the Falcons were gearing up for a run that Johnson-Brock wouldn’t be able to stop.
Freeman switched to a zone defense, which slowed the Eagle offense down in the third quarter. While the Eagles had a few empty possessions trying to figure out the zone, Freeman got it rolling on offense, scoring from beyond the arch and at the basket to pull ahead by double digits in the third. Freeman knocked down another three from the top of the key to beat the buzzer at the end of the third quarter, taking a 43-26 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Eagle offense wasn’t there in the fourth quarter either as Freeman’s lead surpassed 20 points and the Falcons ultimately advanced to the state tournament, knocking the Eagles out of the postseason by a score of 60-36.
Eagle Seniors Brody Koehler, Hayden Gravatt, Grady Behrends, Robert Gravatt, and Gage Rasmussen concluded their senior seasons with a record of 22-5.
