Erin Taylor, once an athlete training under Jim Reichart, has taken over her once-coach’s gymnastics program, Crackerjack Gymnastics. That change of ownership occurred in February of 2024, a month after Taylor moved back to Auburn from Omaha. Then, after almost half of a year of renovations, she moved the program from the original studio on Courthouse Square, to the new location, 2324 Dahlke Ave., on January 1, 2025.
“Getting this space ready has been very eye-opening,” Taylor said, “It’s taken a lot of patience, but we are very thankful for all of the local contractors working with us to get the space up to code.” That included replacing walls and upgrading the fire-protection between businesses.
“It has been amazing,” Taylor said, “The new space has allowed for so much more in practices and activities.” That expansion of room is reflected in the size of the gymnastics team, as well, with the seven or eight participants from one year growing to almost 20 the next. The competition team, consisting of 17 girls and one boy, practices nightly, Monday through Friday, and sometimes on Saturdays. Their seasons consist of eight to ten competitions per season, which runs from January through the end of April. “There isn’t really an off season, though,” Taylor explained, “We don’t have competitions, but the team will practice a minimum of three times a week, so they don’t lose the technique and strength they’ve been building up.”
