The Johnson County Central Girls Wrestling Team competed in Plainview Friday and Saturday, February 6 and 7, in the Class B-1 District Tournament. Two wrestlers went to punch their tickets to State, and two came away with gold medals.
Haylee Trew, JCC’s 100 pound wrestler, won through to the finals match with three first-period pins. Her first, against Chloe Lortz of NEN, came with 37 seconds left in the period. The second, versus Emma Bowder, ended with 40 seconds left in the period, and the third against Jenni Olson came with 50 seconds left in the period. Trew’s championship match was with Hayleigh Darling of Yutan. The match ran its full three periods and Trew came out on top with a decision of 7-1. Trew scored 14 team points and will make her way to Omaha with a 49-1 record.
Alejandra Reyes took a bit longer in her matches, but pinned all four of her opponents at the District tournament. Tiegan Stewart of Plainview/Osmond was pinned in 1:54, Dacie Henderson of Broken Bow was pinned in 1:46, and Maddisyn Lampman was pinned in 1:34. Reyes’s final match was against Zaylee Kring from Raymond Central, who she pinned in 1:14. She earned 14 team points and will head to state with a 51-1 record.
