Quarterly Project Response Report Presented to Nemaha County Commissioners

Nemaha County elected officials were informed about recent activity by Project Response Wednesday morning, Jan. 28.
Halee Jeffries related staff helped pack food for the Auburn Backpack Program and taught Safe Date classes in Johnson and Richardson counties. Project Response has also purchased The Neighborhood Closet. Christmas gifts were given to children in the five-county service area. A presentation was given to Longs Creek Village Assisted Living in Auburn on the organization’s services. Domestic violence training was provided at the Falls City Library.
During the final quarter of 2025, there were 49 calls received from survivors seeking services for domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and harassment. Other services provided were: 26 clothing vouchers, 21 personal care items, 20 coat vouchers, six protection orders, two each legal aid referrals and housing resources and one shelter.
Food pantry usage was high at the end of the quarter because of funding issues with the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. 
In Nemaha County, numbers were: in October, 51 visits serving 176 persons; in November, 47 visits serving 149 persons and in December, 27 visits serving 89 persons.
Five-county statistics were: in October, 139 serving 258 persons; in November, 60 serving 194 persons and in December, 39 serving 131 persons.
Action Items
Approved by the commissioners were:
signing a contract with Gus Construction on the box culvert project southeast of Nemaha.
an application from the Omaha Public Power District allowing work in a county right of way at 72281 633 Avenue in southwestern Nemaha County.
the one February fuel bid from Sapp Bros. It submitted $3.0950 on No. 1 clear diesel, $2.7950 on No. 2 clear diesel and $2.1990 on regular gasoline with ethanol.
an interlocal cooperative agreement to join the Southeast Nebraska Development District (SENDD). District 1 Commissioner Mike Hall represents Nemaha County on the SENDD board. 
The 16-county district is a voluntary association of counties and municipalities, formed under the Nebraska Interlocal Cooperation Act. Its focus is in community, economic, and housing development that identifies common problems, their solutions, and to provide continuing support for efficient and effective government among its members.

County officials are being reminded the Nebraska Accountability and Disclosure Form C-1 is due Sunday, March 1.
