The Bulldog boys basketball team has improved to 15-1 on the season after three wins last week over Falls City, Mead, and Nebraska City by an average win margin of 44.3 points. With the added wins, the Bulldogs earned the second seed in the ECNC tournament which started this week.
Through their three most recent wins last week, the Bulldogs had four players average double-digits in scoring, led by senior Brenton Wenzl, who averaged 15.3 points throughout the week, including a gamehigh 20 points in a 69-31 win against the Pioneers on Saturday, January 31. Sophomore Brayan Palmer led the Bulldogs in their Tuesday win over Falls City with 17 points on 64 percent shooting, while Ryan Guenther was just behind Palmer with 16 points against the Tigers as he averaged 14.6 points on the week. Auburn made quick work of Falls City, ultimately coming away with a 78-22 win to start the week.
Between the Falls City and Mead games, Senior Carson Lavigne knocked down five three-pointers to pace Auburn with 15 points in a 24 point win on the road over then 11-4 Mead on Friday evening. The Bulldogs took advantage of a packed-in Raider defense, casting up 34 threes at 31 percent efficiency.
