Sterling Public Schools held an Excellence Rally on January 15, celebrating their students for outstanding performance on the winter standardized tests and for consistently demonstrating strong character throughout the second quarter. The program opened with recognition of students’ character, with a focus on kindness and problem-solving skills. These focus areas align with the school-wide Social-Emotional-Behavioral Learning (SEBL) curriculum, CharacterStrong. Students received certificates and were recognized in front of the entire student body.
Academic awards followed, honoring both teachers and students for exceptional achievement and growth. Teachers, Alexis Hahn, kindergarten; Julie Ebbers, 1st grade; Zach Lempka, 4th grade; Josh Pfeiffer, math; Kendra Matkins, ELA and Library; and KT Saathoff, high school special education; were recognized for their classes’ significant growth in either reading or or mathematics between standardized testing sessions. Students were honored for both high achievement and significant growth.
“ This broad recognition of achievement and progress reflects the strong commitment and effort of both students and teachers,” said Superintendent Riley Armes in his Jet Pride report on the school board meeting held January 19 where the testing results were reported to the board.
