The City of Auburn is proud to announce that the city has been recommended for $600,000 in grant funds by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s Board of Commissioners from the National Park Service, Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) for 2025’s application cycle. The application was approved for improvements to the swimming pool and sports courts at Legion Memorial Park. This project was previously awarded $562,000 from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development’s Civic and Community Center Financing Fund (CCCFF). Today’s award brings the total grant funds for the project to $1.162 million for an overall project total of $1.724 million, including the local match.
The project will include renovations of the existing swimming pool and sports courts located in the Legion Memorial Park. The city plans to utilize the funds to add new features to the pool like zero depth entry, as well as improve the condition of the bathhouse and improve the operation of the pool’s major systems. The project will renovate the pool shell, pool deck, waterslide, chemical room, filter room, and bathhouse. The sports courts project will renovate the playing surface, convert two existing tennis courts to four pickleball courts, and install nets, poles, and fences for the expanded courts. The project will also renovate the remaining tennis court and two basketball courts with a new playing surface, nets, and hoops.
The City of Auburn is excited to maximize these grant funds to renovate existing recreation facilities in Legion Memorial Park and bring new opportunities for outdoor recreation to Auburn residents. Construction of the project is slated to begin following federal approval in summer 2026.
