Michael Weiss of Johnson, District 3 commissioner, will remain chair of the Nemaha County Commissioners in 2026. Mike Hall of Nemaha, District 1 commissioner, continues as vice chair.
The following appointments were made Wednesday morning, Jan. 14: Jeff Boden, surveyor; Dan Alexander of Midwest Engineering Inc., highway superintendent; Nemaha Valley Observer, official county newspaper; Renee Critser, emergency management agency (EMA) director; Nahum Winder, deputy EMA director; and James Reed and Gene Mace, veterans service officers.
The county’s website, www.nemahacountyne.gov was designated as an official posting of meeting notices and minutes.
Representing Nemaha County on various entities will be, with no change from 2025:
Hall: Four-county Nebraska Crime Commission; Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) drills at Cooper Nuclear Station; Southeast Nebraska Community Action Partnership, Inc.; Southeast Nebraska Development District and Southeast District Health Department.
Bryan Mellage of Auburn, District 2 commissioner: Appliance and furniture recycling center; Auburn Joint Airport Authority; Local 251 Union representative; Nemaha County employee handbook and Nemaha County Safety Committee.
Weiss: Blue Rivers Area Agency on Aging; Buildings and Grounds representative entailing the courthouse, 19th and O Street and the Multiplex and Region V Systems/Apace.
The process to advertise for a part-time weed superintendent will be starting.

Resolutions on a subdivision for Albert H. Simpson Jr. in Lafayette Precinct southeast of Brock and allowing Treasurer Jana Gerdes to invest excess county funds for 2026.
An application allowing NPPD crews to work in a county road right of way at 733 Road and 642 Avenue northeast of Auburn.
Signing an interlocal grant group bridge application cooperation agreement with multiple counties. Three projects have been accepted.

Projects are grouped or applied across different funding categories for major infrastructure repairs or replacements, often via Grants.gov and Federal Highway Administration (.gov).
