Shelley Keebler of Sterling celebrated her retirement from her role in Health Information Management (HIM) at the Johnson County Hospital on Wednesday, December 31st. Keebler had worked in HIM for almost 25 years, starting at York General Hospital, where she worked parttime in dietary and part time HIM, while taking medical coding classes.
“I did transcription until I finished my course, then began coding. Shortly after that, I sat for the CCA (Certified Coding Associate) exam, which is an entry level competency test for coders,” said Keebler.
Keebler began working at Johnson County Hospital in October of 2008. At that time, she worked 4 days a week and was doing part time transcription as needed, outpatient coding, discharge chart analysis, release of information and filing. While employed there, Keebler passed the CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) exam, which is a step up in validating knowledge and experience.
