I couldn’t agree more with the previous “Letter to the Editor,” penned by Kevin A. Casey.
The traffic on U.S. Hwy 75 is terrible. The number of vehicles, especially semis, has increased dramatically in the past few years. With population growth, what will it look like in another 5, 10 years?
The noise of jake brakes can be heard all over town 24/7. Homes and businesses along Hwy 75 rumble with heavy traffic, which can be backed up for 2, maybe 3 blocks, at the stoplight.
Born and raised in Auburn, I believe it has been at least 50 years since the talks of a highway by-pass around Auburn, got shot down. The people “in the know,” were afraid of economic loss. How does that look today, with empty storefronts? If you look around, other cities have progressed, put in a by-pass, and have flourished.
It would be so nice to be able to shop downtown without all the commotion of semi traffic, not to mention the possibility of being able to park your vehicle without the worry of it, or yourself, getting hit by a passing vehicle.
A lot of residents simply avoid the intersection of U.S. Hwys 136 and 75, due to the potential risk of an accident.
SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE!
Community leaders, county, and city officials need to get the ball rolling on this traffic problem before another tragedy happens. Thank you.
Concerned Citizen, Susan A. Cade
