Dakota Schulenberg presented the facility’s fourth quarter report to the Nemaha County Commissioners Tuesday morning, Dec. 30.
Schulenberg continued putting IPAWS into practice is in the hands of other officials. He noted it is hoped to start the process in the spring.
IPAWS is the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s national system for local alerting that provides authenticated emergency and life-saving information to the public. It is transmitted through mobile phones using Wireless Emergency Alerts, to radio and television via the Emergency Alert System and on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Weather Radio.
Schulenberg noted Cooper is operating at 100 percent power. The refueling outage will be next fall.
Action Items
The following were unanimously approved 3-0:
--a $150 bid from John Thomas to remove snow from the Multiplex grounds.
--appointing Kip Reeves to the Nemaha County Planning Commission.
--the single January fuel proposal submitted by Sapp Bros. It offered $3 on No. 1 clear diesel, $2.51 on No. 2 clear diesel and $2.0390 on regular gasoline with ethanol.
--Link2Pump as a fuel monitoring system for the county road department. There will be a $18,400 initial fee and a $5,400 annual service charge. Selection of a system was requested by the auditor’s office.
Board of Equalization
Assessor Mallory Lempka presented tax list corrections which were approved. Kenneth and Joan Kracke, 20 percent Homestead needs applied, the $237.28 tax loss will be recouped by Homestead credit from the state. Scott and Debra Brakhahn, $192.18 tax to be deducted for now and will be charged after 30 day notice of value. Jay Fischer, deducting $12.48 tenancy in common that was corrected last year and was not deleted out of the computer assisted mass appraisal.
The treasurer’s staff presented tax list corrections which were approved for Jeffrey and Becky Whisler. The corrections were needed to reflect ownership change to Rachel Snyder and Mark Brown.
Two board notices were accepted. Teresa Oestmann building needed to be moved to a parcel, current value is $589,301 with new value of $619,298. Jamie Lee and Christopher Beaner purchased a house from the City of Auburn before the levy data, current value is zero with new value $283,103. Will need to wait 30 days in both cases and then can do a tax list correction.
Other
The commissioners were informed a $21,248 grant agreement has been signed with the Nebraska Department of Water, Energy & Environment for tire recycling. A date will be set later.
Vicky McNealy, Southeast Nebraska Community Action Partnership executive director, asked about the agency’s use of the county building at 1908 O St. because of potential safety issues. District 3 Commissioner Michael Weiss replied the building is safe to occupy and has been examined by professionals. The county officials know there are issues and repairs are needed, Weiss continued.
The commissioners explained to McNealy the roof was repaired, there is no more leaking and no more mold is growing. There has been no recommendation from state officials on the need to vacate the building or the structure is a health hazard.
The executive director stated the Richardson County outreach office is in the courthouse in Falls City. There is no current open office available at the Nemaha County Courthouse.
McNealy also discussed the possibility of the agency expanding services if there is a need. The Auburn office is open Thursdays and Fridays. The Johnson County office is open two days each week with the Pawnee County office open one day.
