Jan. 5 First Day of Candidate Filing For May 12 Primary Election

Voters in Johnson and Nemaha counties will face election of many offices in the 2026 election.
Potential candidates can begin filing Monday, Jan. 5. Following are members of city, school board and other elective offices whose terms will expire this year. Unless noted, all offices are four-year terms. The primary election is scheduled Tuesday, May 12.
 

City and School Boards
Auburn Mayor: Chris Erickson.
Auburn City Council: Shawn Clark, Ward 1; Brian Lavigne, Ward 2 and Nathan Seitz, Ward 3. Lavigne was appointed in January 2025 to fill the unexpired term of Katy Billings.
Auburn Public Schools Board of Education: Ryan Jones, Beth Kernes Krause and Laura Osborne.
Peru City Council: Brent Brown and Rachel Brown.
Johnson-Brock Public Schools Board of Education: Chester Bohling, Keith Bohling and Mitch Neddenriep.
Tecumseh Mayor: Jesse Grof.
Tecumseh City Council: Lance Beethe, Ward I; Alicia Brommer, Ward II and Tyler Speckmann, Ward III.
Tecumseh Airport Authority: Steve Johnson and Steve Mercure.
Johnson County Central Public Schools Board of Education: Justin Beethe, Gail Hutt and Kim Wellensiek.
Sterling Public Schools Board of Education:  Mark Horstman, McKenzie Saathoff and Rick Vollman.
 

Johnson County Offices
Assessor: Terry Keebler.
Attorney: Benjamin Beethe.
Commissioners: David Borrenpohl, District 1 and Les Agena, District 3.
Clerk: Kathleen Nieveen.
Sheriff: Lynn Lyon.
Surveyor: Brent Jorgensen.
Treasurer: Nadine Beethe.
