The Sterling Lady Jets, in a sports coop with Lewiston, traveled to Falls City Sacred Heart for its season opener in basketball on Friday, December 5. Unfortunately, the Lady Irish dominated the scoring in the game and pulled away with a 69-28 victory.
“Before the game, I talked to the team and emphasized how important it was that we bring great effort. I think we did that,” said Sterling’s Head Girls Basketball Coach Josh Pfeiffer. “We wanted to keep them out of transition and we wanted to rebound well. We did each of those things at times. Unfortunately, it was kind of inconsistent. They are clearly a really good team. You don’t get to where they are by accident. They have mastered so many details. Even if you are doing a nice job, if you just slip up one time, they will get an offensive rebound or a run out layup.”
Kynli Portwood totaled 15 points for the night. Braylee Houghton added seven points. Bryleigh Crouse contributed three points.
