The Johnson County Central Thunderbirds attempted a fourth quarter scoring rally against the Mead Raiders in their season opener on the road Friday night, December 5. However, the Thunderbirds came up short as Mead still controlled a 50-45 lead as the buzzer sounded.
Wes Swanson sank the first basket of the night. Jack Waring and Trey Lubben were key shooters from the three point range as JCC held on to an 11-9 deficit by the end of the first quarter.
AJ Rautenbach and Regan Thies kicked off JCC’s scoring efforts in the second quarter of play. Then Swanson and Gabe Bernadt each added a basket. Waring helped out with a pair of freethrows late in the quarter. However, the Mead Raiders were still out in front 25-21 at halftime.
