The Sterling Public School One-Act Play captured the Class D-2 District Championship at the December 6th competition held at Peru State College. The school has been performing one-act plays for at least 15 years but this was the first time in school history that Sterling One-Act Play has achieved this level of performance.
The play is 'Why Do We Laugh?' by Stephen Gregg, focusing on the evolving relationship of two characters, Meredith and Andrew, from childhood (age 6) through marriage (age 45) to old age (age 66), exploring enduring connections, humor, and life's surprises.
“I love this story because it is so believable,” said director Kendra Matkins. “Everyone can relate to our show. You see yourself as a child, teenager, middle-aged, and older. If you don't see yourself, you see your parents and grandparents. It's such a great story that captures the ups and downs of life and celebrates long time love and friendship.”
