Lucia Campbell Makes History as First Female Wrestler to Sign Collegiately from Auburn
AT THE SIGNING TABLE with Lucia was her mother Stephanie, father Russell. Back row from the left is Carl Albert State College women’s wrestling coach Kason Wilkinson, sister Penelope Campbell, Auburn Bulldogs women’s wrestling head coach Mark Oliver, and brother Jude Campbell.

Surrounded by family, coaches, teammates, and friends Auburn senior Lucia Campbell made school history this week as she signed her letter of intent to wrestle at Carl Albert State College in Poteau, Oklahoma. In doing so she became the first girl wrestler from Auburn to compete at the collegiate level.

Campbell, who began wrestling in the 2021-22 school year, the same year the sport was first sanctioned for girls in Nebraska, said the milestone feels surreal.

“It’s really exciting,” she said. “My freshman year was the first year we had it sanctioned here, and to see it grow from then to now has been incredible.”
