With several weeks of operation of two new electric furnaces for continuous cast bronze bearing materials, Magnolia Metals Corp. of Auburn has reached new peaks of safety for personnel, and increased efficiency to new standards.
An itinerant who spent several days in Auburn preceding the fire which destroyed the Auburn Hotel was questioned in Falls City by law enforcement officials. Fire Chief Bud Redfern said that investigation had disclosed the man had been in the building, which was in the process of being removed, on several occasions, but that it had not been possible to place him at the site at the specified time.

Jon Holtz, an Auburn High School senior, received the R. C. Weldon Tennis Award at the Nebraska City High School Fall Sports Recognition night on Thursday, Nov. 16. The award, presented annually since 1990, recognizes the player who, in the opinion of the players and coaches, displays outstanding ability, aggressive attitude, leadership and successful performance on the tennis court.
Auburn lost a popular eating place Sunday night when Kelly’s Cafe burned to the ground. The restaurant at 1116 J Street and an apartment beneath it were destroyed by a Nov. 26 fire, the cause of which remained under investigation at press time.

Lynn “Mac” Erisman of Auburn was a finalist in the Veterans Category for the ServeNebraska Awards Ceremony held recently at Mahoney State Park. Erisman is the president of the HUA’s (Hearts United for Animals) Board of Directors, serves on the Board of Public Works in Auburn, and is a dedicated volunteer for HUA. 
On a misty Homecoming morning, a record number of runners participated in the Nebraska’s Toughest Mile held on Halloween in Peru. The race, coordinated by the Peru State Bobcat women’s cross country team and Coach Katy Billings, saw the individuals navigate the three tough hills in the city.
