Car thieves, beware! A new alarm system being installed in some 1975 Cadillacs is bound to cause a lot of trouble for would-be car thieves. The theft deterrent system becomes “armed” when the driver activates the automatic door locks as they leave the vehicle. Then, if someone tries to enter the car without the key, the car’s horn begins to blow and the headlights flash on and off for about six minutes, or until the system is turned off by unlocking the door with the key.
Fire destroyed the three-story Auburn Hotel Sunday night. The landmark in the downtown business section was constructed shortly after the turn of the century. The 45-room brick structure had not been used as a hotel for several years.

Just when one thought an election couldn’t get any closer, the race for the Second Ward Seat on the Auburn City Council did just that. After the Nov. 15 recount between incumbent Mac Erisman and Glen Krueger, the count stood 275 votes apiece.
Investigation is continuing into a weekend break-in at The Wheeler Inn. Owner Dennis Wheeler reported the incident at 8:13 a.m. Monday, according to Auburn Police Chief Dan White. Entry was gained by forcing once’s way through an opening formerly occupied by an air conditioner. The perpetrator pried open a plywood covering and entered the dining area.

Although the Bulldogs fell short in their quest for a Class B state championship, it cannot deter that this season was one of the best in the history of the school.

The Lady Eagles earlier defeated Howells-Dodge in four sets and took top-seeded Emerson-Hubbard to five sets to reach the championship match.
