After waiting a little over two months, Tecumseh Economic Developer Doug Goracke received notice that Tecumseh has been awarded a $435,000 Community Development Block Grant for downtown building facade improvements as part of the Downtown Revitalization project. Any building in the historic downtown district is eligible to apply to the city for grant funds.
“I will send out engagement letters asking the [property owners] to come to an organizational meeting,” said Goracke. “This is to get an idea of how many applications we will get because we only have so much money. We will try to make it as fair and even as possible.”
Any exterior improvements are eligible for the grant, including roof, paint, windows, doors, tuckpointing, etc. The property owner is responsible for 25% of the cost, although the full cost must be paid up front and when the work is finished, the owner will be reimbursed for 75% of the amount.
