“It feels pretty good. I never thought I’d be 100,” said Lorraine Lynch, who celebrated her 100th birthday Nov. 9 at the Crab Orchard Community Building surrounded by family and friends.
Lynch credits staying busy for her long life. Born to Lloyd and Carrie Richardson on a farm west of Crab Orchard, she graduated from Crab Orchard High School in 1944 and worked at Johnson County Bank in Tecumseh before marrying her high school sweetheart, Keith Lynch, in 1948. They lived on the Lynch family farm before moving into Crab Orchard, where Keith worked at Dempster Industries in Beatrice for 30 years and Lorraine kept busy as a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, gardening and housework.
Lorraine was an active member of the Crab Orchard American Legion Auxiliary Unit #336 for more than 60 years. She has seen many major inventions in her lifetime, noting automobiles, airplanes, cell phones and computers as the most important. “Today, everyone depends on their cell phones,” she said, adding that she doesn’t think she needs one. She still marvels at the moon landing, remembering the extensive TV coverage and calling it “fantastic.”
