Peru, Nebraska Recall Effort Moves Forward as Mayor Files Defense

Following up on coverage that began Oct. 30, Peru, Nebraska Mayor Katy Novak issued her formal defense statement to the Nemaha County Clerk well ahead of the Nov. 12 deadline. The defense statement and the reason cited for the recall will be printed on all petition pages.

In her statement, Novak wrote,

“I stand by my record of serving Peru with integrity and transparency. Claims of financial misappropriation are false; our finances are reviewed monthly by the council and finance committee. I’ve worked to strengthen communication, including launching our public newsletter. My heart is for this community and I trust neighbors will see the truth and our shared progress.”
