The Johnson County Central volleyball team received an escort out of Tecumseh in celebration of advancing to the Nebraska State Volleyball Tournament on Friday afternoon with a perfect 31-0 record. The Lady Thunderbirds faced the Yutan Lady Chieftains, who advanced with a 21-7 record, in the opening round played at the Pinnacle Bank Arena at 5 p.m.
It was a hard fought battle all the way as Yutan’s performance forced the match into five sets.
The first two sets were evenly matched with the Yutan girls winning the first set 25-17 and JCC winning the second with the same score of 25-17. Yutan pulled back into the lead with a 25-19 win in the third set, but the Lady Thunderbirds were not finished yet, winning the forth 25-17. The JCC girls struggled early in their scoring efforts in the fifth set, trailing by up to five points before Yutan won the set 15-11.
