Auburn High School’s One Act team hosted their very first haunted house event on Saturday, October 25. The Circus at Central was located at the Central Offices and featured two separate showings, Ghostly Giggles from 3 to 6 p.m. and The Ringmaster’s Secret from 7:30 to 11 p.m.
With 27 students and four coaches making up the One Act crew, it was all hands on deck for two months to prepare for the night. “We’ve been pretty set on the circus theme,” Coach Bobbie Jones said, “it comes from the ‘Silenced on Barbour Street play we put on two years ago.” Once the theme was decided, the actors developed their characters themselves and, while some needed to be tamed a bit for the child-friendly Ghostly Giggles performance, much of what the students came up with was used in the events.
Taking place at the Auburn Public School’s Central Office, the crew decorated routes encom- passing all three stories of the building. Guests began on the main floor and were led up the stairs to experience a number of spooky scenes. They were then brought down another set of stairs and, during Ghostly Giggles, ushered through the curtains to the main stage where face painting, photo shoots and mystery boxes were arranged to give children a spooky-silly end of the tour.
