Although the Sterling Jets football squad scored one touchdown in the first, second and third quarters of their football game at Pawnee City on Friday night, their efforts weren’t enough as the Indians pulled away with a 50-24 victory over the Jets.
Sterling’s scoring occurred as Dane Vollman returned a 65-yard interception for a touchdown early in the first quarter. David Roecker’s kick was good for an 8-0 lead. Pawnee City answered quickly with a touchdown of their own to cut Sterling’s lead 8-6.
In the second quarter, Beau Kaster broke loose from Pawnee City’s defense for a 12 yard touchdown run. Roecker’s kick was good for the extra point. Unfortunately, Pawnee City was able to score 24 points in the second quarter to widen their lead 30-16 at halftime.
