Out on the open prairie where alfalfa fields stretch to the horizon and frogs sing beside the pond, something ancient-looking has appeared. At first glance, it might remind folks of England’s Stonehenge—but this one belongs to Nebraska.
It was envisioned by the Rev. Dr. Renae Koehler, a Vesta native and a Tecumseh High School graduate, who has spent a lifetime blending faith, scholarship and heart into her ministry. Now, with the help of her husband, Steve, their sons and extended family, she’s built the Standing Stone Circle—a sacred space on their farm between Hickman and Firth, Nebraska.
“I enjoyed being outdoors at church camp as a little girl,” Koehler said. “Now I get to invite people into my very own stone sanctuary. After all, the great outdoors is God’s most beautiful church.”
