Following more than a week of heat and humidity, cooler and breezy conditions prevailed Saturday morning, Aug. 23 as the Brownville Historical Society (BHS) opened the new home of the Dr. Spurgin Dental Office Museum.

“It’s been a process but we got through it. We’re going to celebrate this beautiful building,” noted Chris Kennedy, Brownville Historical Society (BHS) president.

Kennedy recalled the original museum opened Sunday, June 28, 1998 with assistance from many local residents and many years of hard work. In 2019, a planning committee was formed to study restoring the structure. There were a number of items needing replacement. In February 2023 the committee favored a new building with a concrete foundation instead of saving the original structure. Most funding came from the annual BHS golf tournament and the Nemaha County Tourism Committee. Many groups and individuals furnished assistance in the effort, the society’s president continued.
