Chicago Invasion, a tribute band, played at Auburn’s Legion Memorial Park on Friday, July 18, as the fourth feature in the Summer Sounds Concert Series. Along with the wonderful music, attendees got to watch young artists decorate the sidewalk with chalk as well as see who was crowned the winners of the Chamber of Commerce Lemonade Stand competition.
The tribute band featured nine members, some on brass instruments like trumpets or saxophones, others playing drums or guitars or basses. Two of the members sang, too, and together they brought the classic Chicago sounds to Auburn and all the many guests who attended the concert. Aside from a bit of screechy microphone feedback, the concert was a hit. The Groovy Grub food truck from Rock Port served concert goers, as did an edible cookie dough stand. Those who wished to bring their alcoholic beverages to the event were allowed to do so if they received a wristband and drank within a designated area.
Around 7:30 p.m., the band took a break and Leslie Clark with the Auburn Chamber of Commerce took the stage. She first called forward those who participated in the sidewalk chalk contest and announced the winners. Following that, Clark asked those who took part in the Slice of Summer Lemonade Stand competition to come to the front. Of the more than 20 participants there was one winning stand from four distinct categories. The award for Best Customer Service was given to Anna Askins and Sadie Jones, the best decorated stand was done by Caleb, Ben and Asher Jenek and the stand with the Most Unique Tasting Lemonade was Blake Dunekacke and Kollyns Vinson. The Grand Champion and Best Overall Stand was managed by Nora Ackley and Joseph Horn.
